Job Title: Clinical On-Call Nurse (Band 7+)

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: Full time/Part time/Adhoc Weekly

Shift Pattern: (17:00 – 08:30 Monday to Friday, Saturday 0830 to Sunday 0830, Sunday 0830 to Monday 0830. and bank holidays).

Location: Remote.

Please note: You MUST be a Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN and have a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience. You will also require experience of managing complex service user care needs, including medication administration, and nursing interventions for chronic conditions.

As Band 7+ nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring that Service Users and Staff receive high-quality, timely, and compassionate care when the usual clinical team is unavailable. You will be expected to handle a variety of clinical situations, offer expert advice to staff, and manage urgent Service User needs.

What will you do?

  • On-Call Support
    Provide clinical expertise and guidance to nursing staff, healthcare assistants, and other team members during on-call hours.

  • Emergency Care
    Respond to clinical emergencies, ensuring appropriate treatment and interventions are provided in line with care plans.

  • Clinical Decision Making
    Make informed clinical decisions, utilising your advanced knowledge of nursing and complex care needs to ensure Service User safety and wellbeing.

  • Clinical Supervision
    Provide leadership and support to nurses and healthcare assistants during on-call shifts, ensuring adherence to best practices.

  • Care Coordination
    Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care for Service Users, ensuring handover and relevant information are shared for future care needs.

  • Documentation
    Maintain accurate and comprehensive Service User records and communicate any updates to relevant teams or family members as needed. Add onto on call report in detail to ensure follow up actions can be taken during office hours if required.

  • Training & Development
    Assist with the training and development of junior staff during on-call shifts, providing mentorship and support in clinical decision-making.

  • Escalation
    Know when to escalate care concerns to the appropriate senior clinical staff or emergency services.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualifications
    - Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
    - Evidence of ongoing professional development.

  • Experience
    - Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience.
    - Experience of managing complex Service User care needs, including medication administration, wound care, and nursing interventions for chronic conditions.

  • Skills
    - Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
    - Ability to work autonomously and manage a high-pressure workload.
    - Strong leadership and communication skills.
    - Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
    - Ability to deal with emergency situations calmly and effectively.
    - Knowledge of safeguarding protocols and policies.

  • Other
    - Must be flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the service.
    - Able to provide on-call support during the specified hours (17:00 – 08:30 Monday to Friday, Saturday 0830 to Sunday 0830, Sunday 0830 to Monday 0830. and bank holidays).
  • Desirable
    - Experience in managing Service Users with complex care needs, such as neurological disorders, palliative care, or respiratory support.
    - Experience within Clinical Complex Care within the community.
    - Previous experience in an on-call or out-of-hours clinical role.
